Concealing my flaws

I must confess that I have been slacking with my blog posts and social media, it’s bittersweet to admit that my day job is quite demanding and dealing with anything other than my job (I will be doing a Vlog post on how I spend my days soon). I’m sad to admit that I have not been keeping up with all the amazing new releases that have been hitting the Makeup industry, to be honest, the releases haven’t been making that much noise for me.
But what did get my attention, thanks to a few of my new friends in the USA (blogger friends) was the Jeffery star Magic Concealer. So I have been testing this out for a few days now. And to be rather honest with you… I’m in love with it.
So let’s jump right into it
Packaging:
The concealer comes in the signature Jeffery star pink colour and logo with a sort of holographic shine to it. The box seems a bit bigger than your average concealer box because of the little bobble that is attached to the applicator, but to me, that won’t take away any points from this review.

The Concealer itself is so unique, the look of it sort of gives me a mix between girly and a hint of gothic feel, which stays true to the JS brand (case in point: Jeffree’s Blue Blood palette). The applicator is a doe foot applicator sort of like the brand’s lipstick applicator. This concealer is weighty but not too heavy, the only downside I felt that with this component was the little star at the top of the bobble, it kept stabbing me whenever I put my hand into my cosmetic bag. Now as a makeup artist one would wonder if this concealer is worthy enough to put into one’s kit, I would say yes and no. No, because I find that the bobble would take up to much space from the streamline effect of the kit. And yes because of the shade range.

I chose the shades C13 and C15, because there wasn’t an easy way to find my correct shade, however, most of you would be amazed to learn that Jeffree Star has a unique Concealer exchange programme, so if you did not find your perfect shade you can return.

Shade range:
What amazed me was that Jeffree not only released his first base product after all the drama that surrounded it, but he launched 30 shades, for an indie-brand that is HUGE. Now let me make this super clear, I don’t have all the shades, but from the swatches, it seems that Jeffree released a lot of unique tones that caters for the palest of skins to the darkest. I love that JS cosmetics launched a pure white concealer, as a makeup artist this will help me mix and match shades to suit my client’s needs (when I do decide to add it to my pro kit that is) now I also should mention that Jeffree launched 2 colour correctors, which I don’t see the need for purchasing because I prefer my Kryolan Colour corrector wheel.
Formula:
This concealer, I must say is rather pigmented, however, I wouldn’t say that it gives you the fullest coverage, its more medium to full and buildable depending on how you use it. I found, in my days of testing it that if you apply it lightly then it wont give you as much coverage but if you are a little heavy handed with it then it gives the fullest coverage, I must admit though that I love that this product is customisable, and works for many different techniques.

The biggest question I was asked when I mentioned to friends was, is it blendable and how is the texture? Well, I wouldn’t be honest with you if I said that I can describe the texture of this concealer, I cant honestly. What I can tell you that its smooth and sort of has kind of a bounce to it, it’s very lightweight and pigmented, but like I mentioned that you can either be heavy-handed and keep it heavy or you can blend it out. Another note is that this concealer doesn’t set down very fast but it does set on its own, unlike other concealers that need to be set with a powder. During my testing of this product, I’ve noticed that whether you set the concealer under the eyes or not, it does end up creasing, which isn’t ideal for a full business day.
Longativity:
Like a mentioned above that this concealer does crease under the eyes, whether you set it or not. when it comes to if it’s transferable, then yes, it is. It transferred onto my sunglasses and onto my figures when I tried to set it during the day. But even though it transferred a bit, it wasn’t totally removed and still covered my colour corrector for dark circles ( I haven’t been getting much sleep) and didn’t totally move about. When it came to concealing certain areas of the face, I am happy to announce that that did not move what so ever and didn’t really transfer much.
In closing, I would recommend this product and give it 9 lipsticks out of 10.

Have you tried the Jeffree Star Magic Concealer? What do you think about it? and lastly what other products would you like me to review?
